What is a Welding Procedure Specification (WPS)
WPS – Welding Procedure Specification
Simplified:
This means a written procedure telling the welder/ operator which type of welding rod or MIG wire to use for a certain type of welding joint. It will also be specific in the type of parent metal being welded and the thickness of the same.
So in summary: It’s a piece of paper telling you exactly how to weld a joint. (what type of MIG wire or welding electrode to use, what amperage and voltage settings to use on the welding set, How thick the parent metal must be, what type of welding joint to use.
From 1st July 2014, it will become law in Europe that any individual or company involved in fabricating or erecting Steel or Aluminium structures must CE mark the structure.
To be able to do this you will need to do 2 things;
1. All the welders and welder / supervisors must be coded to EN 287-1 standard.
2. You or your company must hold the relevant WPS to cover the welding jobs you are doing.
